My name is Janis Barnett. I grew up in Jeffersonville, and I graduated Jeffersonville High School in 1983 with honors. I attended the University of Louisville and where I was a University of Louisville LadyBird. I have two children, six grandchildren and another on the way. I am a widow of 22 years of marriage and my husband Mr. Floyd Barnett passed in 2012 due to this disease of addiction.
I am currently the Program Director for The BreakAway. I've been in recovery since 11/12/2007 and am an alumna of The Healing Place for Women. After graduating The Healing Place, I was given the opportunity to become a certified Recovery Dynamics facilitator which is the evidence-based program currently being used at The BreakAway. The Healing Place put me in a position to help open Brighton Recovery Center for Women in Florence Kentucky and The Warm Recovery Center for Women in Hazard County, KY.
I am an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. I have served my community in several ways including bringing the Fresh Stop Market to Jeffersonville, serving on the Board of Directors for the Center for Lay Ministries, sitting on the Bliss House Committee. My past employment allowed me to work as a Crisis Response Consultant in Recovery; an Employment Consultant for people with special needs mentally and physically; a Social Security Certified Benefits Liaison; AIG Warranty Regional Coordinator; Administrative Assistant for Bliss House; Administrative Assistant for Wesley UMC; and Office Manager for LK Construction. The many roles I have played since I have been in recovery prepared me for my current position as the Program Director at the BreakAway, MY DREAM JOB! I’m excited about my newest challenge – dancing and fundraising to support the women of The BreakAway!
